Vancouver Video Producer Wins Video Award

Orlando Florida – Vancouver video producer Shawn Lam, owner of Shawn Lam Video, was awarded a WEVA Creative Excellence Award at the WEVA 20th anniversary awards gala held at Disney World. The awards ceremony recognizes the top video production studios in the world in thirteen categories and is selected annually by a new group of industry judges. The entire process is double-blind and every year there are over 1,000 entries and only three videos per category are selected for awards.

Being recognized by his peers for his video production work is nothing new to Lam as this is his second WEVA CEA. His first WEVA CEA, the most recognized award in the event video industry, came in 2008 and Lam’s first international award, an Artistic Achievement Award, dates back to 2007. Last year Lam was recognized locally by the BC Professional Videographer’s Association, who presented him with the BCPVA Distinguished Service Award for his contributions to the video production industry, including serving as the Associations President for five terms, speaking internationally at video production conferences, teaching video production business at BCIT, and for his print articles in the video production trade publication EventDV Magazine, where he serves as a contributing editor.

Lam’s 2010 CEA award winning video was entered in the Theatrical Productions category and was for a video he produced with Essence of Dance, a White Rock dance studio, on their year end dance recital. The video was a two part entry and featured the studio’s senior and graduating dancers performing a dance routine on the sand at White Rock Beach, next to the historic White Rock Pier. Both parts were multi-camera productions and were filmed in high definition with video cameras mounted on tripods, hand-held, and on a crane. The first part was a music video of a dance routine was performed to a live concert version of “Sitting on the Dock of the Bay”. The music video was then projected on the cyclorama (stage backdrop) at the Bell Centre for Performing Arts while the dancers performed a stage version of the same routine. The video of the live performance, enhanced with the music video part, formed the second part of the entry.
